The Ridgefield Fire Prevention Bureau is primarily responsible for enforcing the
New Jersey Uniform Fire Safety Act and the New Jersey Uniform Fire Code. The Bureau
investigates the cause and origin of fires within the Borough of Ridgefield and
conducts fire prevention education throughout the year.
Fire Inspections
The New Jersey Uniform Fire Safety Act requires that all buildings, with the exception
of one- and two-family owner-occupied dwellings, be inspected at least once per year.
Life Hazard Uses: Classified based on risk to life and must be
registered with the State of New Jersey. These occupancies may be inspected more
frequently.
Non-Life Hazard Uses: Inspected annually as required by law.
Fire inspections are not required to be scheduled in advance and may be conducted
at all reasonable times as permitted by the NJ Uniform Fire Safety Act.
Fire Safety Education
The Fire Prevention Bureau offers free fire safety education presentations to tenant
organizations, civic groups, building employees, healthcare providers, and business
organizations.
Presentations may cover general fire safety topics or be tailored to specific needs.
Please contact the office during normal business hours and allow ample lead time for
scheduling.
