Ridgefield Fire Department

The Ridgefield Fire Department was founded on January 30, 1895. Its first piece of equipment was a hand-made hose cart. Today, the department operates a 93-foot tower ladder, one heavy rescue truck, four engines, a Zodiac boat, a Boston Whaler boat, a 2,200-gallon water tender, a communications truck, and three Chief’s vehicles.

Keeping current with the ever-changing responsibilities of modern fire service, department members are trained to respond to and manage a wide range of emergencies. The department’s membership is made up of individuals from diverse ages and professional backgrounds.

Responsibilities include fire suppression, motor vehicle accident response, carbon monoxide emergencies, providing mutual aid to neighboring communities, and assisting residents with various non-emergency situations.
