Mission Statement
To provide a comprehensive emergency management system that coordinates
people and resources to protect the lives, property, and environment of the
Borough of Ridgefield using an all-hazard approach through mitigation,
preparedness, response, and recovery from disasters and emergencies.
The Ridgefield Office of Emergency Management (OEM) serves as the local
equivalent of the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA).
Responsibilities
In the event of a large-scale emergency or disaster, the Office of Emergency
Management is responsible—by Federal and State law—for coordinating all
emergency services within the Borough of Ridgefield.
This coordination includes police, fire, ambulance, public works, the Health
Department, and all additional agencies contributing to emergency response
and disaster recovery efforts.
Emergencies can occur at any time and may include hurricanes, snowstorms,
floods, fires, hazardous material incidents, acts of nature, or acts of terrorism.
Teamwork
The Ridgefield Office of Emergency Management works closely with the Police
Chief, Fire Chief, Emergency Medical Services, Bergen County Office of Emergency
Management, and the New Jersey State Office of Emergency Management.
Membership is also held in the New Jersey State Emergency Management
Association, allowing the sharing of experience and best practices among
emergency management professionals.
News Release: The Need to Properly Prepare
Being prepared before an emergency occurs is essential. Many people fail to
realize how quickly life can change during a disaster or emergency.
Events such as house fires, power outages, evacuations, or severe weather can
happen without warning. Preplanning allows residents to understand what
actions to take, where to go, and how to protect their families, pets, and property.
Volunteers Needed
The Ridgefield Office of Emergency Management assists residents who are
displaced from their homes or in need of support during emergencies.
Volunteers are needed in many areas. Whatever your interests or skills, your
help can make a difference when residents need assistance the most.
If you are interested in volunteering, please contact the Office of Emergency
Management at (201) 943-3600.
