The mission of the Ridgefield Recreation & Parks Department is to offer a variety of quality services to residents of all ages so that their leisure time may be spent in a productive, meaningful and enjoyable manner a safe environments. These services may take the form of educational, instructional, or recreational programs or less structured activities; they are diverse so as to offer options.

We offer a variety of seasonal sports programs for boys and girls throughout the year, such as soccer, cheer leading, football, basketball, and wrestling. We also offer a 6-week summer camp program for children entering Kindergarten through 8th grade in the following September of that same year. All of our programs are available to Ridgefield residents only.

In addition to our sports programs, we also have many classes available to adults as well as children throughout the year. Our seasonal flyers list all upcoming classes and special events run by our Department throughout the year. We are always open to suggestions for any new programs you would like to see offered in the future.

The goals of our programs are to build self-esteem; teach social skills (values, communication, and human relations); teach physical skills (fitness and health); build relationships among peers and between parent and child; support and strengthen family life; develop responsibility, decision making, and leadership skills; promote team spirit; and, most of all, to have fun.

Some of our sports programs are competitive in nature, yet we strive to achieve this without fear of ridicule or failure. Volunteers coach all of our sports programs, and without you, we could not run these programs. We appreciate the time and effort put into making these teams successful by all the parents who so generously volunteer their time; not only is it rewarding for your child, but it is beneficial for all parties involved.

Our services are a means to a greater end; that end to include the establishment of new relationships and rapport with other participants, staff, and members of the community. This helps to open new lines of communication; to promote mutual respect in our multicultural environment; to promote a better understanding of ourselves and our neighbors; and ultimately, a better understanding of, and commitment to, our community. Our services enhance and enrich lives long after a specific activity is completed.
